VirusTotal is a popular online service that lets you upload files and determine whether they’re infected with viruses, Trojans, worms, and other malicious components. It analyzes the uploaded files with the use of multiple antivirus engines, which make it highly accurate and very reliable. As a proof of the appreciation that VirusTotal received from a lot of users, it eventually became a subsidiary of Google.
VirusTotal Uploader is a tiny free application that lets you quickly select and upload files to the VirusTotal website. Uploading files to VirusTotal usually requires only a web browser, but this neat little program brings some additional advantages over this method. One of these advantages is the fact that this tool can integrate with the Windows Explorer’s context menu, allowing to upload files by only right-clicking them and selecting the corresponding entry from the displayed menu. Any file under 32 MB can be uploaded to VirusTotal using either this method, or the classic, browser-based one.
Another advantage of this small utility is the fact that it allows scanning even the running processes: upload the executables and scan them for viruses or other malware components.
Last but not least, VirusTotal Uploader will also let you scan an online file directly, without requiring you to download that file and store it on your disk, even temporarily, therefore minimizing the risk of unwanted infections. more
